As for our sixth graders, they are now beginning the exciting and challenging journey of adolescence. Our seniors are now on their way to college, as all 110 members of the Class of 2016 have been accepted to schools in Hawaii and on the mainland. In the end, their faithfulness and courage changed the world. They traveled as far as they could to tell the world about Jesus Christ. After he ascended into heaven, his 12 disciples went out and proclaimed the gospel. Before Jesus Christ said goodbye to His followers, he spent 40 days on earth teaching them and preparing them for their ministry. Saying goodbye generally signals the end of something, and while it can be sad, it is also the opportunity for growth and new opportunities. In June, our graduating seniors bade farewell to our high school campus, and our sixth graders said goodbye to our elementary campus. A continuation of CHEM 220 which includes: addition and condensation polymerization, including some kinetics divalent carbon compounds (carbenes) pericyclic reactions Woodward Hoffmann rules mass spectrometery of organic compounds organic chemistry of sulfur, phosphorous, and silicon compounds carbohydrates, amino acids, proteins, lipids dyes and dyeing mechanisms of nucleophilic substitutions. The course consists of a survey of aromatic compounds, focusing mainly on aromatic heterocycles containing one or two heteroatoms. Synthesis, structural aspects, and chemical properties of these compounds will be examined. Some more complex special cases, including purine and pyrimidine systems, will also be included. Methods for deducing the structural features of organic compounds will be examined, with a major emphasis on the use of spectroscopic techniques. While the theory and instrumentation of each technique will be presented, the course will focus on the interpretation of spectral data to provide information on functional groups, bonding, and stereochemistry. Use will be made of spectral data correlation charts, compilations and databases. Required for, and restricted to, students in degree programs where chemistry is Science A. Required for the first term of the junior year. The course deals with quantum mechanics and its applications to the structure of atoms and molecules. Three credits and lab/tutorial.ģ32 Introduction to Molecular Spectroscopy and Statistical Thermodynamics The topics covered are: the postulates of quantum mechanics and their applications to simple physical systems, including particle in a box the quantum mechanical model for vibration and rotation of molecules the hydrogen atom and many electron systems introduction to the Variation Principle and Hückel’s molecular orbital method. The course deals with the characterization of patterns of molecular quantized energy levels in rotational, vibrational and electronic spectra of both linear and non-linear molecules. Other topics include: photoelectron, spectroscopy and magnetic resonances introduction to statistical thermodynamics including partition functions and calculations of various thermodynamics properties, equilibrium constants and rate constants. On a failure, the creature is petrified until freed by the greater restoration spell or other magic. It must repeat the saving throw at the end of its next turn. On a failed save, the creature begins to turn to stone and is restrained. The targeted creature must make a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw. This ray has no effect on constructs and undead. The target awakens if it takes damage or another creature takes an action to wake it. The targeted creature must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or fall asleep and remain unconscious for 1 minute. The beholder can also exert fine control on objects with this ray, such as manipulating a simple tool or opening a door or a container. If the target is an object weighing 300 pounds or less that isn’t being worn or carried, it is moved up to 30 feet in any direction. It is restrained by the ray’s telekinetic grip until the start of the beholder’s next turn or until the beholder is incapacitated. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 16 Strength saving throw or the beholder moves it up to 30 feet in any direction. The targeted creature must make a DC 16 Constitution saving throw, taking 36 (8d8) necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. The creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. In addition, the creature can’t take reactions, and it can take either an action or a bonus action on its turn, not both. On a failed save, the target’s speed is halved for 1 minute. The targeted creature must succeed on a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw. The target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. The targeted creature must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened for 1 minute. The targeted creature must succeed on a DC 16 Constitution saving throw or be paralyzed for 1 minute. The targeted creature must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or be charmed by the beholder for 1 hour, or until the beholder harms the creature. Beholders view everyone else as lesser beings, at best to be utilized as minions or at worse as food. Each beholder believes that beholders are the superior species, and that they themselves are the superior beholder. This usually results in them fighting to the death though, as there’s nothing in this world more paranoid and ingenious than a beholder.īeholders are incredibly intelligent and universally arrogant. When a beholder dreams of another beholder, a new one pops into existence. Beholder magic warps reality around them in weird ways, especially in their dreams. Their true origins have remained mysterious, but they fleshed out the way we get more of them. Monsters are just there because there are monsters. Want to grow your hoard? Check out our dice subscriptions!īeholders harken back to a time before thorough backgrounds for all the monsters. But just what makes these ocular aberrations so interesting? Follow us deep into the beholder’s lair and be sure to compliment him as we go through everything you need to know. There’s so much more to these monsters than meets the EYE (I’ll stop, I swear). Nothing quite says D&D like a horrifying floating eyeball monster, and they’ve remained as a tentpole of every bestiary since the very first edition. There is no creature more iconic and more unique to Dungeons & Dragons as the beholder. Fallout 4 VRįallout 4 VR isn’t about a zombie apocalypse, but it is about a nuclear apocalypse, and those two flavors of apocalypse are probably cousins or something. It’s quite therapeutic to kill the “zombies” of Boneworks, and we definitely recommend it - if you have the stomach for it.īoneworks is out now on SteamVR and Oculus Rift. On the bright side, there are a ton of these ‘AI’ zombies around, and there’s a fantastic physics system that lets you pulverize them to death with any old cardboard box, if you so choose. The whole thing is set inside of a computer world, so it fits. Technically, the zombies in Boneworks aren’t actually zombies. Skyrim VR is out now on SteamVR and PlayStation VR. Here’s how to burn 1000+ calories in Skyrim VR, and here are the top mods to download for Skyrim VR on PC. If you delve into any tombs, you’re likely to run into your fair share of Draugr, and they won’t be particularly happy that you disturbed their sleep. Like Asgard’s Wrath, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR has its roots set in Norse mythology. This is easily the most feature-rich co-op zombies mode around, aside from Arizona Sunshine, and it’s an incredibly addictive way to fight hordes of zombies with your buds online in VR. The one to check out is one of the many ‘COD Zombies’ mods, which directly pulls classic zombies mode gameplay from past Call of Duty titles into Pavlov VR. There’s a built-in co-op mode where you can fight through waves of zombies with up to three friends online, but it’s pretty limited. Pavlov VR introduces a few different options for zombie slaying. Hot Dogs, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades is out now on SteamVR. Speaking of, this is the perfect place to try out as many of the MANY weapons featured in H3VR as you’d like. Impaling hot dogs on a number of different weapons, such as claymores, is a pretty ingenious solution when the bun factories are (presumably) closed until further notice. There’s a detailed physics system in place here, which means you can do some pretty crazy stuff in Return of the Rotweiners. Return of the Rotweiner takes the entire arsenal of weapons featured in Hot Dogs, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades, and drops it into a wasteland riddled with the walking hors d’oeuvres. What’s better than shooting and looting your way through an army of zombified sausages? Not much, honestly. Hot Dogs, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades (Return of the Rotweiner) Arizona Sunshine is the most relaxed of the bunch.Īrizona Sunshine is out now on Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest, SteamVR, and PlayStation VR. Don’t expect any strenuous melee mechanics, punching, or swinging your arms around. It’s been continuously updated since launch, with a few DLC releases such as The Damned, and a port to Oculus Quest. Best experienced with a friend in co-op, you’ll spend your time in Arizona Sunshine shooting your way to the end of each mission. Arizona Sunshine was the original “big zombie game” to hit VR headsets in December 2016, well over three years ago at this point. A New Game + mode ups the ante on these titans and keeps you on your toes. Once the game clicked, I gleefully charged into the action, excited to add another monstrous head to my proverbial wall. Hitting walls opened my eyes to the smart nuances in combat and made each mammoth confrontation even more exciting. Weirdly, the more Eldest Souls handed me my butt on a bloodstained platter, the more it grew on me. It’s nothing fancy, but it does a fine job filling out the adventure without feeling like needless padding. You can completely ignore these fetch quests as they have no bearing on the critical path, but you can earn perks such as increased movement speed. These characters usually ask you to bring them an artifact, so exploring thoroughly to find well-hidden items is important. Ability granting shards earned from bosses provide additional customization options to the deceptively deep character building.īetween god-slaying you engage in light exploration, converse with characters such as an omnipresent bard, or oddities like a talking frozen skull. Eldest Souls isn’t about figuring out which class a boss is weakest against, ala rock-paper-scissors, but rather learning which approach works best for your play style. As someone who rarely respecs in a game, Eldest Souls pushed me, with great success, to change my tactics whenever I hit a wall. Whether I was spawning homing projectiles using Windslash or unleashing devastating parry attacks under the Counter tree, I found each class entertaining in its own way. You can only equip one class at a time, and each has a separate skill tree of abilities and buffs, but you can switch by respec-ing skill points whenever you want at no cost. In layman’s terms, that’s Speed, Offense, and Defense. Winning the day requires a mastery of Eldest Souls’ three combat styles: Windslash, Berserk, and Counter. Instant respawns also kept me engaged, as did the option to try my luck against other foes as multiple are available to challenge at a time. Sometimes the sheer number of attacks to look out for can feel maddening, but I always knew where I went wrong and ultimately succeeded by studying attack patterns while properly managing stamina. Surviving their assaults can be infuriating, and I saw the Game Over screen hundreds of times. Enemies are multiple-trick ponies that lob screen-filling traps, bullet-hell style projectiles, and often shift tactics or take on new forms mid-fight. Even the final big bad had me grinning with excitement as I cut through its seemingly bottomless well of offense. Favorites include a gravity-controlling mage and a deer god who’s much more than meets the eye. Each boss is fun, even those who took a dozen attempts or so to topple. The Old Gods offer an entertaining and supremely challenging gauntlet of battles that pushed me to use every skill. Still, I love how this mechanic emboldens me to keep bringing the fight no matter how bleak things look and led to some incredible come-from-behind victories. However, it takes a second to charge up this attack so there's a risk to the reward. Lose 90 percent of your health during the opening seconds of a bout? A few hard hits can patch you up as if nothing happened. This system does an excellent job of encouraging and rewarding aggression and kept my morale from plummeting whenever I got stomped. Instead, you regain health by landing charged sword strikes. My favorite aspect of Eldest Souls is that you don’t collect health pickups. It’s not a deal-breaker, but it could stand to feel tighter, and it took me a while to get used to combat. Armed with a heavy broadsword, your basic attacks are deliberately slow, to the point of feeling slightly unresponsive. Stamina only dictates how often you can dodge, meaning you can swing your sword all day without consequence. For one, you’re not collecting currency, so you don’t lose anything on dying. Eldest Souls wears its FromSoftware inspirations on its sleeve but is thankfully not as harsh. They break into an abandoned Volvo V70 to escape nerve gas released to kill the infected but are unable to start the car while soldiers with flamethrowers draw near. Doyle ignores his instructions and escorts Andy, Tammy and Scarlet to Wembley. Flynn contacts Doyle by radio and tells him to leave the civilians and head to Wembley Stadium. However, a desperate Sam attempts to leap onto the helicopter, and is infected and falls, which forces Flynn to abandon the four. After escaping with a survivor named Sam, the only survivor of a sniper attack that killed most of the group, Scarlet informs Doyle that the children might hold the key to a cure because of their genetic make up and must be protected.įlynn arrives by helicopter to pick up Doyle but refuses to take anyone else, as they would be shot down for carrying people who might be infected. Stone orders District One to be firebombed but large numbers of the infected, including Don, escape the bombardment. Doyle, unable to bring himself to comply with the order, abandons his post and escapes with Scarlet, Tammy, Andy and several others through the Greenwich Foot Tunnel. Scarlet, a US Army medical officer, rescues Tammy and Andy as the soldiers in District One are ordered to shoot indiscriminately. The crowd, with half its members infected, breaks out of the safe room and into the streets. Civilians are herded into safe rooms while the soldiers search for infected but despite the precautions, Don breaks into a room full of people and starts a domino effect of rapid infection. General Stone orders the building to be quarantined and orders a Code Red alert in District One. Don transforms, brutally beats her to death and goes on a rampage, infecting and killing thousands of innocents in the way. She accepts his apology and tells him she loves him, prompting him to kiss her, unaware she is an infected. Don makes an unauthorized visit to Alice in her isolation cell, begging her to forgive him. Alice is taken to a quarantine room, where she is tested and found to be an asymptomatic carrier of the rage virus. The three are soon discovered by soldiers and taken back to District One. To his shock, Andy finds Alice alive and seemingly uninfected in a semi-conscious, delirious state. That night, Andy dreams about forgetting his mother's face, so Tammy and Andy sneak out of the safe zone and return to their former home, where they collect family photographs and other mementos. In their new flat, Don fabricates a lie about the circumstances surrounding their mother's death. Tammy and Andy are reunited with their father, who was found by the US Army and has become the district's caretaker. Sergeant Doyle, a Delta Force sniper and his friend, Chief Flynn, a helicopter pilot, are amongst the troops guarding the district. They are admitted to District One, a safe zone on the Isle of Dogs, guarded by the US Army. Among the new arrivals are Don and Alice's children, Tammy and Andy, who were out of the country during the outbreak. Twenty-eight weeks after the outbreak, an American force, under the command of Brigadier General Stone, brings in settlers. After watching his wife being dragged out of sight by the infected, he narrowly escapes on a boat piloted by Jacob, one of the remaining survivors, who falls in the water and is overcome by the infected.Īfter the infected begin to die of starvation, NATO forces take control of Britain. He abandons them as the infected break into their room by escaping out of the window. Don pleads with Alice to leave the boy but she refuses. The infected attack and kill most of the survivors, while Don, Alice and the boy are chased upstairs. A few minutes later, they discover that the infected have followed the boy.
